Forward2023 LMU Homecoming CME: Proper Prescribing and Pain Management
This program is being held in conjunction with Lincoln Memorial University's annual Homecoming Celebration and will provide required proper prescribing training for the state of Tennessee in addition to lectures on non-opiate holistic options for management of chronic and acute pain and joint pain management. This program will be recorded and available to registered learners for one month following the live event date.

1) Provide state-mandated training in proper prescribing of controlled substances.
2) Identify non-opiate holistic treatments that can be employed in the management of acute and chronic pain in the primary care setting.
3) Discuss treatment of joint pain in the primary care setting.
Additional Information
Attendees may participate in person at the LMU-DCOM Building, Room 101, at DCOM at LMU-Knoxville, Room 133, or virtually via Zoom. Attendees will receive the Zoom link in their registration confirmation email.
Ryan Bearer, DO | Proper Prescribing of Controlled Substances in Tennessee
Ryan Bearer, DO received his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship at Huron Valle/Sinai Hospital in Commerce, Michigan, and his anesthesiology residency at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan, where he also completed pain management fellowship. Dr. Bearer is the medical director of the Cleveland, Tennessee, office of Specialists in Pain Management and is the former director of the pain management fellowship at McLaren Greater Lansing/MSUCOM. He is a member of the Tennessee Pain Society.
Dr. Bearer is a consultant for Nevro Corp., a medical device company that manufactures devices for the treatment of patients with chronic pain. Dr. Bearer's relationship with Nevro Corp. has been mitigated by ensuring that the company and its products are not mentioned in his presentation.
Donald Killion, FNP-C | Holistic Approaches to Pain Management
Donald Killion, FNP-C is a family nurse practitioner at Broadway Neck and Spine in Knoxville, Tennessee, for four years. He uses holistic pain control and other modalities to control chronic pain. Mr. Killion also has 20 years of experience in emergency medicine and neurology. He received his associate of science in nursing degree from LMU and his bachelor of science in nursing degree from King University in Bristol, Tennessee, and his master of nursing in the family nurse practitioner concentration from LMU.

Maurice Skillern, DMS | Joint Pain Management in the Primary Care Setting
Maurice Skillern, DMS is an armed forces-trained physician associate and retired combat veteran who served as a medical officer while in the military. While in the military, Dr. Skillern's role involved treating various bone and joint injuries and the evaluation of soldiers to return to duty or be discharged from the military for joint issues and/or other medical reasons. After retiring from the military with 22 years of service, Dr. Skillern worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital System in Memphis, Tennessee, as a supervisor in the orthopedic clinic. He is a member of the Tennessee Medical Service Corps, where he has actively participated in hands-on public health initiatives. Dr. Skillern is a graduate of the inaugural class of LMU's Doctor of Medical Science (DMS) program. He now works in private practice in Memphis, Tennessee, where he primarily focuses on orthopedics and public health.

J. Michael Wieting, DO, MEd, FAOCPMR-D, FFSMB | Moderator
Dr. Michael Wieting is senior associate dean and professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation and osteopathic manipulative medicine at LMU-DCOM. He is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation with additional subspecialty qualifications in sports medicine, electrodiagnostic medicine and pain medicine. Dr. Wieting has presented nationally and internationally on pain management in cancer rehabilitation and evidence-based use of opioids in the treatment of acute and chronic pain. A Fellow of the Federation of State Medical Boards, he serves as a consultant for state and national regulatory bodies on strategies for prescribing opioids for management of pain, represents a Tennessee physician licensing board on the Tennessee Controlled Substance Database Monitoring Committee and served on the Tennessee Opioid Minimum Discipline Task Force.

The Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.
