Description: This presentation will compare and contrast the old and the new guidelines for managing and treating cholesterol metabolism disorders as well as a discussion on how laboratory tests will be involved in the new guidelines.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

1. Compare and contrast the National Cholesterol Educations Programs guidelines (NCEP-ATPIII) with the new guidelines from the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology.
2. Compare and contrast the various treatment options for cholesterol disorders.
3. Discuss the laboratory’s role in the management of these new guidelines.
