Proficiency in manual therapy, including thrust manipulation techniques, is a fundamental component of entry-level physical therapy education. However, many clinicians have felt uncomfortable and unable to practice these skills extensively for various reasons, limiting their use of this valuable hands-on tool for their patients. This 2-day, 12-CE unit course is designed to bridge this gap by providing a comprehensive review of standard and advanced manipulation techniques, along with assessment techniques to guide clinical decision-making on their application. Participants will leave the course with renewed skills and confidence, ready to immediately employ these techniques as soon as they return to their respective practices.
*This course is provided by LMU DPT in partnership with the Institute of Advanced Physical Therapy Education (IAPTE) as a fundraising effort to partially subsidize registration fees for physical therapists in developing countries attending the 2nd Asian Confederation of Orthopedic Manipulative Physical Therapists Congress (https://www.acompt2025.com).

By the end of this course, participants will confidently select and carry out the following manual therapy techniques for their appropriate application:
- Thrust techniques
- OA distraction
- AA rotation
- Mid-lower cervical distraction
- 1st rib inferior technique
- CTJ prone pivot
- Prone thoracic AP distraction - "Texas screw" (multi-level)
- Supine thoracic and rib AP distraction - "Dog" (multi-level)
- PA radial head - "Mill's"
- 1st CMC distraction
- Lumbar roll distraction
- Talocrural distraction
- Cuboid whip
- Select non-thrust techniques/assessments
- Scapular mobilization and pectoralis minor stretching
- Thoracic extension mobilization with movement
- Upper cervical differentiation (for cervicogenic headache)
- Upper limb nerve tension tests and mobilization
- Anterior/posterior innominate MET
Lawrence Ramiscal, PT, DPT, PhD, is an associate professor of physical therapy and the director of research and faculty development at Lincoln Memorial University's Physical Therapy Program in Knoxville, Tennessee. He is also an instructor for IAPTE courses and the Physical Therapy Advancement Seminars' OMPT Diploma Program.
Dr. Ramiscal has 25 years of outpatient orthopedic clinical experience, with over a decade as a successful private practice owner before moving to academia. He has been a Board-Certified Orthopedic Specialist (OCS) since 2007 and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMT) since 2009. He has an eclectic manual therapy background, from his earliest certifications in Maitland (COMT) and Stanley Paris' University of St. Augustine program (MTC) to his fellowship training through the Manual Therapy Institute.
Dr. Ramiscal is a founding member and past vice president of the Phillippine Association of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists, a recent Member Organization of the International Federation of Othopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists. Dr. Ramsical will be a keynote speaker at the 2nd Asian Confederation of Orthopedic Manipulative Physical Therapists Congress to be held in Cebu, Phillipines, in March 2025.
12 CE credits will be provided by LMU DPT as a CAPTE-accredited program. See TN rule1150-01-.12.5a, KY KAR 22:045.Section2.2, and GA Rule 490-4-.02.3d.
