Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) was established on August 1, 2007, on the campus of Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN. LMU-DCOM is fully committed to meeting the health care needs of the community and beyond with excellence in teaching, patient care and service. The mission of the Office of Continuing Medical Education (CME) at LMU-DCOM will remain consistent with the mission of LMU-DCOM to prepare outstanding osteopathic physicians who are committed to the premise that the cornerstone of meaningful existence is service to humanity. Planned educational programs will focus on the health and wellness needs of people within the Appalachian region while emphasizing primary care for underserved rural communities.
Farragut ENT and Allergy is an independent medical practice treating disorders of the ear, nose, and throat. Farragut ENT employs ENT physicians, audiologists, nurse practitioners, and others working together for optimum patient outcomes and satisfaction. With multiple locations around Knoxville, TN, Farragut ENT is committed to advancing the diagnosis and treatment of ENT-related conditions for patients and providers across East Tennessee.
LMU-DCOM and Farragut ENT have forged a commitment to address common ENT conditions that can be managed at the primary health care level, especially in rural, underserved areas. Common ENT conditions account for a substantial portion of billing in office and hospital revenue, which translates to large expenditures in ambulatory and emergency department utilization and resources. Integrating ENT expertise into continuing educational and training programs of primary care practitioners offers an opportunity to offset the limited exposure and training in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and provide future direction in meeting the changing healthcare landscape.
Many common ENT conditions can be managed at the primary health care level with the potential for decreasing the financial burden on patients and hospitals. This reduces referrals as well as improving quality and timeliness of care. Using realistic learning experiences, demonstrations and hands-on skill building techniques this workshop provides an appreciation of allergy testing, testing protocols for hearing loss and dizziness, Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT) for common ENT conditions, and an opportunity for advanced level training in flexible nasolaryngoscopy.
Target Audience: Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants and other health care providers involved in the care of ENT conditions commonly encountered in Primary Care.
